Jaipur Jewelry Box Div. V-H, First place, Drawing

I was inspired by the concept of European still life pieces, but I wanted to create a still life that reflected Indian material culture rather than Western. My goal was to capture the beauty of Indian jewelry art through a colored pencil study. Using the grid method, I created contour lines and then filled the paper in layering with prismacolor pencils. Sharp pencil tips and contrast between lighter highlight colors and deeper shadow colors allowed for sharper focus near the intended focal point and I took advantage of the softness of the lead and used blenders to blur out background areas.
